A Psychosomatic Approach to Quality of Life in Patients with Epilepsy

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate psychosocial functionality in patients with epilepsy using the Diagnostic Criteria for Psychosomatic Research (DCPR) classification system that aims identify clinically significant and relatively weighted psychological factors compare it Statistical Manual Mental Disorders (DSM). In addition, aimed validate DCPR by investigating effects psychosomatic diagnoses on quality life disease process. Materials Methods: One hundred consecutive who were referred Epilepsy special branch outpatient clinic included study. control group consisted 53 healthy volunteers. All participants underwent structured SCID-I interviews investigated Short Form-36 (SF-36) a Sociodemographic Data Form. Results: Eighty-seven percent met diagnostic criteria while 82% DSM (χ2(1, N =100) = 4.539, p 0.04). Examination effect systems SF-36 scores hierarchical regression model showed predicted most subscale better. Conclusion: could detect distress at higher rate than epilepsy. Syndromes associated poor patients. is therefore valid may have advantages more comprehensive evaluation
